INSULATION PLANNING
How to compare insulation quotes

Put proposals beside the same project brief. A low total means little when the included work is different.
Use one brief for every enquiry
Describe the property, city, area of concern, known conditions and desired timing. Give each contractor the same photographs and drawings. State whether your priority is a particular renovation milestone, a comfort problem or a planned energy upgrade. Ask for a site assessment where the scope cannot be established reliably from the information available.
Compare five parts of the scope
Look for investigation and assumptions; preparation and removal; named materials and installation targets; finishing and cleanup; and completion records. Mark every missing item as a question. If one quote includes removal and another leaves existing material in place, ask why before treating the totals as comparable.
Make uncertainty visible
Ask what conditions could change the price and how changes will be authorized. Confirm access, protection of belongings, scheduling and the work of other trades. Get warranty terms in writing, including the issuer and exclusions. An allowance is not a fixed price; an estimate is not confirmation that hidden conditions have been inspected.
Choose a clear agreement
Before booking, summarize the agreed scope and the remaining questions in an email. Keep the accepted proposal, written changes, product information and completion photographs together. If a rebate is relevant, verify current eligibility with the official program before relying on it in your budget. This guide does not promise program funding or a particular saving.
Turn the questions into a project brief
Choose your city, explain the area of concern and ask for a written scope.
