What to include in an attic insulation brief
An attic enquiry should describe access, existing conditions and the purpose of the work. Start with observations from a safe accessible position and leave investigation of concealed or hazardous conditions to the appropriate professional.
Record the starting condition
Provide the hatch location, available photographs and any history of roof leaks or renovations. State whether the attic contains stored items or equipment. Avoid presenting an estimated insulation depth as a verified thermal performance value; material condition and the assembly still need assessment.
Coordinate the related work
Ask how the proposal addresses access, air leakage, ventilation paths and services in the attic. Refer the contractor to the actual roof arrangement rather than a generic example. The sequence should resolve required repairs and preparation before new insulation hides the work area.
Agree what completion looks like
Request photographs of relevant preparation and the completed scope, plus product and installation records. List exclusions such as roof repairs, electrical changes or storage platforms. Keep the hatch and future service access in the handover discussion.
