Site access questions before insulation work

Good access information helps a contractor price the work accurately and plan disruption. Describe the route into the building and the conditions at the work area, including obstacles that do not appear on a floor plan.

Walk the delivery route on paper

List parking and loading limits, doorways, stairs, lifts and long internal routes. Show where equipment and supplies can be placed. Building management should confirm any restrictions before the proposed setup is accepted.

Identify the work-zone constraints

Mark ceiling heights, tight cavities, fixed equipment and occupied rooms. State whether other trades will share the area. Ask the contractor to explain access needs rather than promising that existing building equipment can be used.

Assign the preparation

Agree who moves possessions, protects finishes, arranges keys and clears the route. Put these responsibilities and dates in the scope. Confirm how the area will be handed back and what happens if the required access is not ready on the scheduled day.
